Lloyd 1956 LS-400S Kombi |
Carl FW Borgward was an extraordinary entrepreneur - the kind that easily survive the chaos and upheavals of the Second World War. Success, stubborn, the imagination, but to find a legendary failure in 1961, has built almost everything that could have four wheels and run on the roads. His company has made both cars and trucks, and names Goliath and Borgward, Lloyd was the largest variety of post-war model of a German manufacturer.
From the LP 300 in 1950 - one year after the company was created - Lloyd has become very quickly. The LP 300, which was affectionately known as "Leukoplastbomber" (band-aid bomber), came with a body made of plywood covered with imitation leather. The wheels were great, the machine itself fast enough and has enough space for four people. It 'was much better than some cars a bit' too intimate, like the Isetta and Heinkel Cabin. From 1951 forward, the LP 300 is also available in coupe cabriolet, station wagon and minivan.
In 1954, the lower body has been provided in metal in 1955 dressed in the whole body. The "S" 400S means "steel" of the body.
In 1955, Lloyd had the engine reaches an adult is very 600 cc 4 stroke.
400 2 stroke has been done until 1957.
Lloyd has tried to maintain with the neighbors in the automotive sector. However, like other ambitious projects of the parent Borgward has accumulated a large amount of debt. After the failure in 1961, the factory in Bremen was acquired by Siemens, among others.

Public reaction to the little Isetta was gratifying for BMW, but as its shortcomings were also noted at that time ( "too small"), we decided to go "to class" and produce a larger machine with four parts. Management in May 1956 they were still committed to the introduction of the BMW 700, a totally new design in 1959, so that the 600 was regarded as a temporary model easily produced using existing production facilities Isetta. August 1957 saw the introduction of the correct model for universal acclamation. Stylish Watch (Michelotti had been involved) with his new "knife" bumper, a large indoor dining room with access through a side door rear seat and the engine is sitting in the passenger cabin. All was quiet, his wheel in every corner of the project was a great ride, and there was enough power for the climb. It is also available with an automatic transmission Saxomat. It is expensive, however, 200 points more than a VW Beetle. Plans for multitasking than a car is left in the drawer. Despite all its virtues, excellent build quality, space utilization, and quality of driving, we can not deny that in 1959 the people decided to have a normal car, "the real, and in particular new home BMW 700, which would then sell up in 182,000 copies. 1957 Isettacarro |
1957 Isettacarro
Renzo Rivolta's Little Isetta, immediately attracted attention, and licenses were granted for the construction in several countries. Two models have been proposed - the small egg-shaped 50 centimeters Tourism narrow rear track and the type of truck, a commercial version with full width of the rear axle. The truck has been offered in several body styles, a truck, surrounded by trucks (vans commercial), a tilt-bed, or even a fire engine! It 'was a type of vehicle is very popular in Italy, and many manufacturers produce a type of variant. This included Iso themselves, who previously (1950-1953) produced a Isocarro type of motion. The truck Iso was higher than most, with its four-wheel layout, differential and rear axle with leaf springs good, tubes and solid frame. E 'was good for a load of 500 to 600 kg. The truck name Isetta was also used. This is an example of Isettacarro built under license in Spain by ISO Motor Italy, Madrid. In the late fifties, the company was associated with Iso-Borgward Espanola SA, German colleagues, and later changed his name to it. This car was a precious family member "of the family Pallas from its acquisition by new ones, but it was considered prudent to put in the hands of the club so that it is adequately supported. The move was regretted later, the car has been carefully restored without the originality that the family had made great efforts to maintain over the years. For the record, Mr Pallas states that the car should be gray, had two replacement lamps, should not have the badge on the front Iso Espana, should not have radial tires, the emblem on the steering wheel is 45 degrees outside, and now has a reverse light. The original interior has been preserved carefully removed and replaced by new ones. The wheel of origin is claimed to be the sole survivor. 1956 Heinkel Cabin |
Aircraft designer Ernst Heinkel saw the Isetta, and decided he could do even better, using the principles of aircraft and lighter made even faster with a smaller engine. It comes with the cabin 150, the quintessential "bubble car with its large glass area and, more contour lines, which were a cross between Isetta and Messerschmitt.
In October 1956, has introduced Cabin 153 (three wheels) and 154 (four wheeler) with the four-stroke engine of 203cc-faithful enlarged. In March 1957, this was reduced to 198cc for insurance reasons.
A permit to construct the Heinkel had also been sold in Argentina, where about 2,000 copies were sold until 1961. They were equipped with filters the outside air due to problems with dust.
Demand was strong for the scooter very popular tourist and also for the different engines are supplied to other companies, so there was an increased demand for spaces of production more Heinkel.
Despite the production of about 50 cars a day, Cabin lost between 400 and 500 marks per vehicle. This, combined with the Heinkel died in January 1958 and resumed production of aircraft required to sell the entire crop Cabin Dundalk Engineering Company in Ireland in June of 1958 the idea. This was short-lived, however, that the quality Probem with the Heinkel-I became evident. The plant was Irish-dirt floor, front axle and stored outside. The license was withdrawn.
This example, in its original red color, the tail has been widely used for both the three and four wheels.

1958 Zündapp Janus |
In the first decade after the Second World War, has long been established at Nuremberg Zündapp offered a wide range of two-wheelers from mopeds to heavy motorcycles. At the end of 1954, it became terribly obvious that people were ready for vehicle recovery and better weather the industry's entire motorcycle was in free fall.
Zündapp did well they could not afford a long process of development and could consider outside help. Kroboth Brütsch and efforts were considered too primitive and Fuldamobil hot. Dornier front / rear facing prototype was installed and was called the Roman god Janus, who faced both ways. He was quickly redesigned with Isetta-style doors and with the 250cc motor scooter Bella central location between the front / rear, front, seats fold flat. Much attention has been devoted to advanced MacPherson strut suspension very comfortable. Sliding glass side windows and rugged construction has contributed to an overall weight that was too much for the 14 hp engine and first examples barely reached 80 miles an hour. Production began in June 1957 - too late - after yet another redesign to lighten the car, replacing the Plexiglas side windows. 15,000 vehicles per year are needed to balance, but only 1731 were built during the first six months. Watch the landscape in the retreat of seats in the rain was not so exciting for customers, as first thought. By the summer of 1958, it was evident that the situation was untenable, and the plant was sold to Bosch. Few remain.

2003 Segway HT |
Adequately to the new millennium, the media were in a frenzy of speculation about the nature of a revolutionary, high tech, futuristic new products that would reach the market. Code name "Ginger" that would revolutionize personal transportation. This is a jet pack? A Hoverboard?
Dean Kamen presented his invention in December 2001 - The Segway HT, for the human transporter. This is a sophisticated two-wheeled, battery-powered scooter that uses gyroscopes and tilt sensors combined with motors to provide movement in all directions, the whole system simply controlled by body movements.
In actual use, that works very well, with remarkable unity between man and machine. There is no sense of "unity", a car, much more than just "thinking" that has to do, and responds instantly and smoothly. This is a course of instruction that must be taken for the purchase, and personal electronic key sets the car in one of three "performance profile" Settings. "He leans slightly forward to go back and stop. Sensors in the platform for detect subtle changes in angle and height, and motors in each wheel speed or slower to keep the balance and steer.
Since its introduction, the Segway has in some eyes below expectations, and has been criticized and become the target of jokes, and revolutionary, as other means of transport suspected-The Sinclair C5 Electric twenty years ago.
But a large group of supporters stress that he in fact its original promise, and the support of the World Wide was formed. Its success will depend on how it fits into the real world, however, that the city determine the rules governing its use on public sidewalks. San Francisco, the freer and environmentally conscious cities, has become the first country to ban the device from its streets.

1957 Jurisch Motoplan |
Jurisch Carl was a talented engineer, who built his engine from zero to 24 years, and a motorcyclist throughout and enthusiastic. Motorcyclists in Europe with a decline in the mid-fifties, was convinced that the future of transportation is in a single-seater PMV.
Designed and built a small car, using as the body of a Steib S250 sidecar, upside down, divided in half and extended. The windshield and the front suspension and Messerschmitt, and the drive unit 150 Heinkel Cabin (175cc), but with 0-103A tourist carb and exhaust. The 8-inch rear wheel and the shorter the scooter came 102A tourist chaincase-1. The unified management, U-shaped swivel handlebars under the seat is very comfortable to use, light and precise. Handlegrips integrate easily switch to flash and horn button. Canopy, tail, seat and fuel tank while on the upside for access.
In collaboration with the bike dealer Joe Berliner, tried to sell the small car in New York at the height of the tail fin craze, much of the market underestimated the point of view of rural Germany. This car, number 101 prototype, ended up languishing in a dealership in Florida, after which it was acquired by Vic Hyde, then, in 1994, has brought to Canada for restoration.
At least two other cars were built. The second, also blue, was given a larger more practical cabin and ten centimeters. Jurisch Carl's daughter, said her daughter walks up to the tail of the car as transportation to school regularly in the nearby village (milk truck or post), did not work. A letter of Authority noted Dr. Paul Sims recalls how Jurisch the car back in the offices of "Das Motorrad" for a test, but was rejected because "who would buy a stupid impractical".
The third car, painted red, I brought a big box with a lid instead of the tail curve. The fate of these two cars is unknown.
